Help us help you.. Keep our Rivers clean!
Thanks to the help of the St. Louis Open Space Council & their Operation Clean Stream event we are able to get volunteers to help us clean out our three beautiful streams– the Meramec, the Huzzah, and the Courtois.
“Since 1967, The Open Space Council for the St. Louis Region has organized Operation Clean Stream, one of the country’s largest and longest running river restoration projects. The fourth weekend of every August, event volunteers take to the Meramec River and its tributaries, working to undo damage caused throughout the year by flooding, careless littering and the unlawful dumping of trash. Volunteers participate both in canoes and boats, as well as on the shore, in nearby parks, and along nearby trails.
In 2014, 2,225 citizen volunteers weathered 100+ degree days to clean up nearly 500 miles of waterway in the Meramec River basin. Volunteers pulled 2,481 tires and 250 cubic yards of trash, the equivalent of 6 large construction dumpsters, from the river.
Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own boat and join a team on the river or walk the banks and clean up the parks and greenways in the Watershed.”
